The feisty factory boss

2013年07月27日

To say that Coronation Street's Carla Connor (Alison King) has had a few romantic ups and downs in the past few years would be the understatement of the century.

The feisty factory boss has suffered a succession of heartbreaks, including the devastating hit-and-run killing of her lover Liam and the death of evil husband Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien), and ended up turning to alcohol to numb the pain.

But while things have been looking up for her since she began dating fellow Alcoholics Anonymous member Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) at the end of 2011, like most romances in soapland, the course of true love has not exactly run smoothly.

The last few weeks have seen the couple face fresh problems, as a result of Carla's constant meddling in Peter's beting shop business.

The bookmaker has resented his girlfriend for buying his ex-wife Leanne Batersby's (Jane Danson) share and installing her brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) - whom Peter despises - behind the counter.

To top it of, business has been slow and the bills have been mounting up, leading Peter to come up with a harebrained scheme to pull the punters in: by offering the most competitive odds in town.

But the gamble is that just one lucky bet could bankrupt him.

Unfortunately for Peter, this is exactly what happened last week, when Rob placed £500 on an accumulator and won. Now, unable to pay his £35,000 winnings, Rob and his girlfriend Tracy (Kate Ford), who is also Peter's step-sister, threaten to sue.

There may well be a silver lining for Peter, though, when Carla asks him to become her business partner at Underworld. And the proposals don't end there. She also asks him to marry her!

In real life, Alison, 40, has also had her fair share of emotional dramas of late, afer breaking of her engagement to Coronation Street sound technician Adam Hucket, the father of her four-year-old daughter, Daisy Mae.
